Giving thanks

Giving thanks

Thursday, 30 November 2023

A week ago, the USA celebrated thanksgiving. This got me thinking and led to me jotting down the things I am grateful for, that make traveling worth the struggle.

Firstly, I am grateful for my friends, people all over the world who have my back no matter what. People who are ready to jump in a car the second they hear I’m in trouble to come and rescue me from the jungle. Friends who provide support, love and advice that fuel my heart and keep it open to the world. Friends who celebrate your successes and build you up in your failures. I am grateful for my friends.

Secondly, I am thankful for privilege. Doing this trip is in no means a guarantee and many people in this world will never be able to travel like this and get to see the things I see. With so many who fight to get by day by day. I am saddened to see these conditions, but also grateful that it has opened my eyes to what is out there and therefore appreciate the privilege I have even more.

Lastly, I am grateful for Donkey. My sturdy mule has brought me to places few people get to see. From hidden coves to otherworldly rock formations, to cascading waterfalls. My Donkey has gotten me there. I look forward to many more kilometers of exploration with my dear friend.

I would like to close this entry by encouraging you all to take a moment in your day to think of a few things that you are grateful for, and to hold them in your thoughts for a minute to give them the appreciation they deserve.
